In early 2005, Stevens returned to the studio for an album that was a departure from the electric blues-rock template he had followed for ten years. " Alone At Last" was released in July 2005 and demonstrated a different side of Stevens. Stevens got good feedback from fans about the acoustic album and says, "If my fans can follow me on my path and let me try new things, I am a happy man. I can’t make the same album over and over. If I change too much and fans don’t like it, I can understand. I try to write quality songs and the rest takes care of itself."
